Belarusian mushrooms containing traces of radioactive caesium-137 have been found in France, Reuters reporting quoting the French Institute for Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety (IRSN).

The mushrooms posed no threat to people’s health but it was decided to destroy them. The consignment weighed 3.5 tons. The mushrooms could be contaminated due to their proximity to the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

The radioactive mushrooms were initially reported to have arrived from Russia. Reuters changed the country of origin to Belarus later.
