The budgets of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the KGB and Lukashenka's security service have grown noticeably over five years / euroradio.fm/AI
State spending under the "national defence" heading has grown by 186% over five years. Comparing the 2022 and 2027 national budgets, the allocated funding for the military rose from 1.812 billion roubles to 5.2 billion. Relative to all other expenditure items, this is the most significant increase in both absolute and relative terms.
Since 2022, the budget of the internal affairs bodies has grown by 141%, Lukashenka's security service — by 160.2%, and the State Security Committee — by 153%.
The budget of the Interior Ministry's internal troops has grown 3.5 times over these five years — from 195.4 million to 698.1 million roubles.
As for "social items", growth has not been as fast as for "security" ones. For example, education spending from the national budget in 2027 will be 103% higher than in 2022, and healthcare — 107% higher.
An interesting fact: although the authorities have paid particular attention to the demographic situation in Belarus, funding under the "assistance to families raising children" heading has decreased by almost 26% over five years (from 379.7 to 281.5 million roubles).
