Hundreds of people gathered in Amsterdam for a rally in support of Belarusian political prisoners.
On September 19, a large-scale performance titled "A Percussion Piece" ("A Strike Against Silence") took place at the famous NDSM shipyard, reports the human rights centre Viasna. 414 people took to the stage wearing masks bearing the faces of Belarusian political prisoners. For 30 minutes, they participated in a sound performance, banging on pots, cans, buckets, lids and other everyday objects.
Each mask featured the image of a real person currently behind bars. In this way, the participants of the rally symbolically gave a voice to those whom the Lukashenka regime is trying to silence.
"This project was never just about making noise. It is about refusing to accept silence as the norm", — the organisers explained.
