Over 100 drones attack huge arms depot in Russia

Over 100 Ukrainian drones launched a massive assault on a sprawling ammunition depot in Toropets, Russia's Tver region, on the night of September 18. These drones, as reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing sources in the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, traversed a distance of over 500 kilometers. The depot housed a variety of munitions, including ballistic missiles (such as North Korean and Iskander missiles), Grad rockets, air defense missiles, and KAB bombs. The Security Service of Ukraine, the Main Intelligence Directorate, and the Special Forces all contributed to the attack, destroying the arsenal.

Ammunition continues to explode in the depot. Local authorities have partially evacuated the population. Many videos of damaged buildings in the city have appeared on social media.

Earlier, researchers wrote that the aforementioned 107th arsenal of the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate of the Russian Defense Ministry contained various types of ammunition (possibly up to 30 thousand tons), primarily 122-mm rockets for the Grad MLRS and 82-mm artillery mines. However, they note that explosions show that at least anti-aircraft missiles could have been stored there.

The detonation of the ammunition in Toropets had an unexpected consequence-it triggered a minor earthquake, measuring 2.8 on the Richter scale. The scale of the explosion was such that the resulting smoke was visible from space, further highlighting the impact of the event.
