Finland pledges another €100,000 to support Belarusians affected by repression

Finland will allocate an additional 100,000 euros to help Belarusians who have suffered from repression. The funds will be channelled through the International Humanitarian Fund and Belarusian human rights organisations that assist political prisoners, those who have been released, and their families.

This was reported by the press service of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya. On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, the head of the United Transitional Cabinet held meetings with Finland's Minister of Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen and the Political State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pasi Rajala.

Following the meetings, the Finnish side announced the allocation of funds. This is already Finland's second contribution to the International Humanitarian Fund.

The meetings also addressed further efforts to secure the release of political prisoners, the security situation in Belarus, and the risk of the country being drawn further into Russia's war against Ukraine. In her conversation with the State Secretary, Tsikhanouskaya raised the issues faced by Belarusians living in Finland — expired passports, documents, and legalisation.
