For the first time in Belarus — and possibly in the world — an icon created by artificial intelligence has been blessed. The new icon at the church of Saint Mary Magdalene in Novalukoml was blessed on 11 October by Archbishop Emeritus Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz.

It is an icon of the "cyber apostle" — Saint Carlo Acutis. The image was specially created using artificial intelligence. This was reported by the parish priest Father Mikalaj Lipski, according to katolik.life.

Carlo Acutis is called the patron of youth, the "patron of the internet" and the "cyber apostle", as well as the "apostle of the Eucharist". This Italian boy spread the Catholic faith online, created an internet catalogue of Eucharistic miracles, and strove to attend Holy Mass every day.

Carlo died at the age of 15 and was canonised in 2025, becoming the first millennial saint.

Notably, many believers on social media criticised the idea put forward by the Novalukoml parish, arguing that an AI-generated image cannot be called an icon.
