In Minsk, a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Alyaksandr Lukashenka is being considered "in practical terms," and "steps to organize it are being taken," Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ryzhenkov said in an interview with RIA Novosti on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

He recalled Trump's invitation to Lukashenka to participate in the Peace Council held in the United States.

"But, you know, a number of technical issues simply prevented us from doing so. And it's not about the American side, but about the fact that today it is quite difficult to fly from Belarus to the United States of America, given the sanctions that the European Union has imposed personally on the president and on the flights of our aircraft," — Ryzhenkov said.

Lukashenka had previously stated that a meeting with Trump would be very beneficial for Belarus, as the country is ready to work together with the United States to normalize relations.
