"Belarusians are very concerned about the possibility of being drawn into the war." This statement was made at a meeting at the Council on Foreign Relations by the foreign minister of Poland, Radosław Sikorski. This week, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, he met with his Belarusian counterpart Maxim Ryzhenkov.
"We do not reveal sources, but there are many of them, about Russia preparing something large-scale this year", said the head of Polish diplomacy.
The minister spoke about Belarusians' concerns in response to a question about possible scenarios for a Russian provocation. He did not clarify whether he meant Belarusians as a people or representatives of the Lukashenka regime. After the meeting with Ryzhenkov, the Polish Foreign Ministry reported that regional security was among the topics discussed.
"As you know, in Narva, Estonia, the majority of the population is Russian. In some cities of Latvia, Russians also make up the majority. They would like to obtain a land corridor from Belarus to the Kaliningrad enclave through Lithuania. We do not know what they will do, but we must prepare to deter them", Sikorski outlined the possible options.
