Former political prisoner Andrzej Poczobut has returned to Belarus. He arrived in Hrodna and published photos from there on his social media. The ex-political prisoner was photographed on the embankment and captioned the image: "Above the Nioman".
Another photo of Poczobut from the embankment in Hrodna was published on social media by deputy editor of Gazeta Wyborcza Bartasz Vialinski.
On September 8, Andrzej Poczobut, as he had promised, returned from Poland to Belarus. He plans to spend a week in Belarus, after which he will travel to the United States and Canada.
Commenting on Pačobut's trip to his homeland, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and human rights defender Ales Bialiatski called on people not to forget that repression continues and that such a trip could be dangerous for other political refugees.
Polish-Belarusian journalist, Andrzej Poczobut was detained in March 2021 and sentenced to eight years in prison on charges of “inciting hatred” and calls for actions against national security, before being released in April 2026 as part of US negotiations with Alexander Lukashenko.
