Cargo flow through Belarus down 30% due to sanctions

Transit cargo flow through Belarus has decreased by another 30% this year compared to the same period last year. This was stated at a press conference in Minsk by the Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Committee, Eduard Danilovich. He emphasized that the situation on the country's western borders remains challenging, mainly due to sanctions, with many checkpoints closed and a ban on Belarusian cargo carriers entering EU countries. At the same time, Danilovich did not mention that the Belarusian government, as a retaliatory measure, closed the passage through Belarus for European carriers, notes Reformby.org

"All this, of course, understandably affects the flow of cargo through the territory of the Republic of Belarus. Compared to last year, this cargo flow has decreased by another 30%," said a representative of the State Customs Committee.

At the same time, Danilovich said that Belarusian business has reoriented itself in other directions. As a result, despite the decrease in cargo flow, the volume of payments to the budget, for which the State Customs Committee is responsible, increased by 18% compared to last year.
